Blushing green was I born
Veiled amongst the leaves,
Embraced in the heart of spring,
Shielded and unseen.
In the warmth of the summer May
I grew up gently,
With a pretty twirl and a gentle furl
I danced with the breeze.
The days of autumn came along
There reined the glorious gold,
From mellow green to golden red
I sang the autumn song.
Came then the wild winters
With them the frosty winds,
I shuddered in the darker days,
And shivered in the nights.
Escape I could see nowhere
As I held on to the browning bough,
Till the last winds danced their way
And hauled me from my life away.
Fragile like a feather I drifted from my mother
To be one with the glorious earth,
And sink with the soil for the journey’s worth
Happily, I slept in peace.
