“Do you forget your medicines, intentionally?”
“Oh! You.”
“Take the pills first.”
“I am tired of taking these. Besides I do not see any point taking these anymore.”
“Oh dear! Don’t start again. You are becoming so cynical.”
“Cynical? I am being cynical? How could you say that?”
“Or what, you grumpy old man? Do you remember, youngest one is yet to be on her own?”
“That is the only thing holding me back.”
“How are other two doing?”
“Why don’t you ask them yourself?”
“You know, they don’t like to see me.”
“They don’t like? You know, your wit has not dulled a bit. Open your eyes, they are scared of you.”
“What so scary about me?”
“One day, they will be scared of me too.”
“Forget about that. Have you all decided to shift to new house.”
“Oh yes! They are saying they want to shift next weekend. But some interiors are yet to be done”
“If those are not major, you can do it even after shifting. Do you remember, how many years we have lived in this apartment?”
“Thirty four years. How can I forget? Do you remember the day we came in here? It seems just yesterday.”
“Those memories will be as fresh as the first fragile ray of sunlight in the darkest room, forever. But you all will enjoy your days in the new house, I know.”
“Not me. Not anymore.”
“What happened now?”
“Why did you leave me? What have you kept me here for?”
“Oh dear! Not again, you terribly cynical old fellow. Go to sleep. I will come tomorrow again”
She moved towards the opened window and faded out in the darkness outside, as usual.
