'Hello. Will you please like my page?'
'I already did.'
'Oh Thanks.'
'Array thanks bolne ki zarurat nahi hai. This is the link to my BlogSpot where I post stories. Please check it out and we are even.'
'Sure.'
'And please do text me the feedback. I'll be eagerly waiting for it.'
It was after 3 long years that they were talking. They were schoolmates. Anubhav was a kind of role-model for Aashina, and she was the first and the only serious crush of his, but both chose different paths. One opted to leave the school and the other decided to try his luck on other girls as there are plenty of fishes in the sea. Now after all these years they were talking again on this social networking site. Who says technology induces cold behaviour in humans? Here, a love story was about to bloom with this technology.
'Anubhav, I never knew you were a writer. What other surprises do you hold for me in that Pandora's Box?'
'Haha, nothing more. I always wanted to be a writer and have recently started taking it seriously. How are you? It has been long. What are you up to these days?'
'Oh wow. I'm good. It has been real long. I just gave an entrance exam and yes I'm good.'
This was just the beginning. A new relation was blooming.
Do Dil Mil Rahe Hai, Magar Chupke Chupke
'Yes, I had a break up and it is going to be a year in a month's time.
'Oh, Sorry about that.'
'No, it’s okay. Do you know that I have always liked you? I always adored your personality. All your talents and the way you talked.' And this was the start of a series of confessions, with baring out their hearts.
Jab Dil Baat Karni Shuru Kar Dete Hai, Tab Aksar Zubanein Khamaush Ho Jati Hai
'Hey, if you want a good writer as your admin you can use me.'
Ashina, as she was, haughty and proud replied, ‘I'll have to ask my co-admins.’
'Sure.'
A 24-hour online chat and the hidden feelings of Anubhav again surfaced.
He had always wanted to ask her out but she was never single. She had a really cute relationship and Anubhav didn't want to be the villain in her fairytale romance, so he always decided otherwise. He always loved when this cute junior popped out of nowhere and showered him with questions. He loved to hear her debate and speech in the morning assembly. He loved to see her dress up in her Saturday uniform but he certainly knew that this was one fish that didn’t belong in his fishing basket but to the open sea.
'Yaar, it is going to be a year tomorrow and I'm upset.'
'Babu, don't be sad. If you are so upset about it then you can always dial his number.' Only few people know how hard it is to comfort someone you love while they are pining for someone else. Anubhav couldn't agree less. Seeing her crying he thought, "Kitna khushnaseeb hoga woh takeya, Jo tumhare sab raaz janta hai... Humein dekho, Hum to tumhare deedaar ko tarase hai...!"
Every single day, every single moment they were growing addicted to each other. Soon Aashina started trusting Anubhav with her secrets and personal details. He learnt what type of clothes she liked to wear, that she didn't like coffee and pizza, when she was going to have her mood swings, that she dreamed big and that she is not a bird that you can keep in a cage, and this very fact made him sad, actually very sad.
'Anubhav, you know I worked hard to get a seat in that US college. In fact that was the only exam for which I worked hard for and I'm so glad that I got selected. Mere Dad bhe maan jayenge. Yipee! I'll be going to US soon, far away from everyone.'
'Uh, what?'
'Dobara message parh le idiot.'
'I mean, you are going away? Really? Please, I don’t like these kind of jokes.'
'Enough Anu. I don't like such jokes either. What is wrong with you?'
'It isn't done Ashi. After all these years when I had finally stopped thinking about you, you popped out of nowhere, made me addicted to you and now you tell me that you are going away. This isn't funny and not at all done.'
'Anu, you cannot be serious. Please tell me you are not serious.'
'You know Aashina I happened to listen to this song today Dil Jure Bina He Tut Gaye, Hath Mile Bina He Chut Gaye, and I actually had a very bad feeling about it. Thanks for making me realize again that there aren't any happy endings. Babu, kal ko tu chali jayegi. I know ki tu woh parinda hai jise kaed kar k nahi rakha ja sakta, par abki baar mai bhe kasam khata hu ki if its not you then it’s none.'
'Anu, please calm down.'
'I'm okay Aashi. It is okay. Will you promise me something?'
'Yes ask for anything.'
'Please save the last kiss for me.'
'Anu, please control yourself.'
'Goodbye Aashi. I Love You.'
'Anu, please wait.'
'It's okay Aashi.'
Anubhav couldn't believe that this was happening again to him. He had finally fallen in love again after his painful breakup two years ago. He knew that everything was not going to be perfect, but he is now sure that there aren't any happy endings for him.
'Anubhav, I want you to write this article for me. It is the prelim round for the scholarship.'
'Why should I write it? I am not applying for any scholarship.'
'No one loves me.'
'Do not do it Aashi.'
'Bas, ab tum bhe mujhe pasand nh karte na. Am I so annoying?'
'Aashi, I'll just pretend that I didn't read the last text.'
'Anu, you won't do it for me.'
'I will write it.'
'Daur ja'
People say that today's youth is so selfish. They do not know anything but how to elbow their own way out and here was this Romeo, stuck in one-sided love, writing an article so that the girl he loves can go abroad on a fees concession. So the days went by and he had acted his best to show that nothing was wrong. If there had been a camera recording him, he surely would have received an Academy award. He didn't meet her even once for he knew that it would be impossible to let her go after that. Finally the D-day had arrived.
'Anu, I will be leaving today. Please you owe me a hug. I want to see you.'
Saying adieu to all the relatives she was going towards her terminal to board her flight where she finds a very familiar face checking her boarding pass. As she wasn't able to recall who he was, she took her documents and was about to leave when she heard,
'Aashi, you owe me a hug.'
As she turns back Anu grabs her by her waist and holds her in a tight embrace. He kisses her forehead gently and finally lets her go. But he doesn’t leave her hand.
Before Aashi could say something, Anu said, ‘Good Bye Aashi,’ with tears in his eyes. Fighting with his emotions, he sprinted out of the airport never to be seen again by Aashi. All that was left of him was a paper in her hand which when she opened read, 'My Happy Ending Will End At You.' She collapsed at the gateway. No matter how reluctant she was, she had to leave. She murmured to herself while she sat on her seat, ‘Anu, you were so right. There are no happy endings after all.’
