Today, I walked into my old class,

Saw the girl who never laughed,

Smiling at me like a friend.

Didn't say a word till period end;

But as I smiled back at her and others,

I felt how strong were these fetters.

My heart did a little dance,

I knew I had given her another chance,

A chance to become what she dreamed,

A chance to know what love means,

A chance to fight another day,

A chance to have her own say!

But was my job already done?

Wasn't I to look unto the sun?

Or was I to fear that I had done no right?

At least, I set a little heart

When I walked into my old class today

I thought a lot, but had little to say.
