                                              Identity

When she was young she went by the wishes of her parents

'cause they said she was too immature to think independently

Now she’s married and a mature homemaker

But all major decisions are made by

the master of the house and she’s without veto

So she gives in, pretending she’d have thought so too

She wanted to go out and enjoy a show but he said “no”

She’s very understanding, and tells herself the show was not good anyway

She wanted to buy some gold earings with the money she had earned

He said gold is a dead investment, let’s save the money

“So true”, she said and did as she was bidden

Her children didn’t like the designer blouse she bought

She went back to the store and exchanged it for a sober one

She loved eating paani puri at the mall

“Bad for the health, it’s unhygienic”, they all said

Yes, I can’t fall sick, for  who’ll  look after them she reasoned to herself

Finally one day, she stopped and asked herself “Who am I?”
