Colors of Life
Disha looked at her reflection, she was brown; it is all the tanning, she mused. She got tanned easily! Neel affectionately called her Bhoori whenever they were at the beach. He absolutely loved sitting on the beach admiring the sunset.
‘The sky is having varied colors and looks so pretty when the sun is setting!’
‘Neel! I am sure it similarly pretty at sunrise too?’
‘I can never get up that early, Bhoori!’
‘I wish you could. Then I could use your help. I can always do with assistance especially in rush hour!’
‘Forget all that! Let me describe how the sky looks. Orange streaks run long and mix in hues of blue, creating this vibrant picture.’
‘How does orange feel? I know how blue does as you have told me often, thanks to your own name. I know blue is when I feel low and am down and quiet, ironically opposite to your personality though…’
‘Orange is bright. It is the glow on your face when I tell you how much I love you. It is the warm feeling you experience when you hug our little princess Ruby.’
‘Now I get it! The love and warmth is spreading in the sky taking over the gloom of blue. It is mesmerizing!’ saying this she closed her eyes, out of reflex. And with her eyes closed she could almost see the colors…
‘One day you shall see all the colors with me,’ Neel said sensing her feelings and putting an arm around her.
‘Neel! I am happiest experiencing them through your eyes.’

‘Mom you ready? The baraat is almost here!’ Ruby hugged her from behind breaking her chain of thoughts.
Ruby looked no less than a princess in red. Red was her color after all, the color of life! The most beautiful bride! Good that Neel is also able to see her in her prettiest avatar ever, smiled Disha.
‘I will be right there’ she said.

Neel passed away in a car accident 10 years ago. He had left his eyes for her as she had always wanted to see the colors through his eyes!

She gave a final check and could not help noticing with sadness that she was wearing an off white saree, the color she wore these days often. Neel loved it when she wore green. Green is the color of prosperity and with your color Bhoori you look so earthy. ‘You look prettiest in green,’ he used to say.
The idea of gifting Neel a second gift stuck her. She moved to her wardrobe to pick out a green saree, the one Neel loved. Neatly draping it she walked out smiling for a godhuli wedding at the beach.
