Readomania is delighted to announce The Mildly Chaotic World of Chi Kenny by Dr. Khushboo Shah. This manuscript won the 1st prize in the PENMANCY x Readomania manuscript contest.

“What would the world be like, if humans were the ‘product’ instead of being the ‘consumer’?”

Says, Dr. Khushboo Shah when asked to elaborate why she wrote her upcoming book, The Mildly Chaotic World of Chi Kenny. She adds that this piece of work stands as an experiment to see if she can create empathy in the hearts of masses for fauna.

The story starts with a satire over the current society as it asks mankind how they would feel if they were treated as cattle and the animals ruled the world. The story welcomes you to LittleTown, a beautiful place where life is seemingly perfect for Chi Kenny, a bespectacled chicken with googly eyes. Kenny spends his days happily clucking around, enjoying the company of his beloved pet family: Adam, Eve, and Apple. However, their idyllic existence is abruptly shattered when a heartless factory farm conglomerate swoops in and forcefully takes over their land, snatching away Kenny's cherished companions.

As this heart-wrenching event unfolds, an ethereal human narrator observes the turmoil from the shadows. The unnamed ghostly presence bears witness to Kenny's sudden immersion in the ruthless world of factory farming. In this grim reality, massive dairy farms, automated slaughterhouses, and exploitative markets dominate, leaving little room for compassion or humanity.

Determined to rescue Adam from this cruel fate, Kenny embarks on a daring mission to challenge the oppressive system. Along the way, he forms an unlikely alliance with a crew of eccentric characters who share his disdain for exploitation. Together, they hatch a plan to expose the dark underbelly of the factory farm conglomerate and ignite a revolution against the atrocities being committed.

This disquietingly dystopian tale is infused with biting satire and whimsical puns, designed to provoke thought and stir emotions. It serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers of complacency and the power of even the most ordinary beings to incite change. And amidst the chaos, the question remains: who is the enigmatic narrator, silently observing and guiding Kenny's journey?

Prepare to be shaken from your indifference as you drown into this thought-provoking narrative. LittleTown's story will leave you questioning the ethics of the industrialised food system and the role each of us plays in shaping a more compassionate world.

With its dystopian and satirical elements, the story aims to jolt readers out of indifference and provoke thought about the ethics of the industrialised food system.

In her quest to examine a specific inquiry, she opted to craft a satirical narrative featuring whimsical characters in an entirely distinct realm, diverging from our own yet bearing similarities. Through this endeavour, she aimed to avoid sermonising while provoking readers to confront a fundamental reality: our own survival necessitates a greater kindness towards animals.
