Need to consult a tantric? Need some supernatural intervention to your problems? How do you find a genuine tantric? Here are eight signs that the one you are consulting is a fraud.

  1. If he/she asks for your horoscope- well then do not believe him or her! Tantra is a metaphysical practice that does not rely on astrology at all.

  2. If you have been lead to your tantric through an advertisement in a publication, billboard, pamphlet or Internet, abandon him/her immediately. The few genuine practitioners who exist never advertise their powers.

  3. If he or she criticizes other tantrics you should start becoming wary or suspicious. If your tantric narrates incidents whereby other tantrics have duped and betrayed people just walk out from your appointment. In all probability, he is narrating about his own dubious exploits. Some common phrases to watch out are – Paacho ungli ek jaisa nahi hota and Ek machlli talaab ko ganda karta hai. Also be wary of persuasive tactics and language like –Dubta huwa ko tinke ka sahara zaroori  hai.

  4. Well, they say that the eyes don’t lie and this is especially true of tantrics. A genuine practitioner of tantra invariably has intense bloodshot eyes.

  5. Now this one is subtle yet very telling- If the dwelling space of your tantric has pictures or idols of the demure forms of the Mother Goddess or a male God do not trust him or her. A real tantric is a staunch sadhak of Goddess Kali (can also be a devotee of another fierce form of the Mother Goddess) or the fierce form of Lord Shiva (Bhairav).

  6. If the tantric that you have met assures you that he/she will perform the rituals (for your benefit) completely in your absence without any involvement from you it is a red alert against him/her. There are very few tantric rituals that can actually happen without any involvement at your end. Rituals that do not require your physical presence invariably need some involvement from you in the days immediately following it. This can be as simple as smearing some powder or liquid concoction over someone or something, reciting a mantra, observing a fast or everyday ritual, etc.

  7. Be wary of tantrics who do not have any occult symbols (yantras) in their dwelling space.

  8. A tantric who urges for physical or sexual intimacy is of course a huge red flag and a complete imposter. Yes, tantra has an intrinsic connection with the sexual union but a genuine tantric knows that this is a sacred practice that is undertaken with another sadhak! This simply means the union of a yogi and a yogini (both are tantric practitioners). The objective of such union is energy expansion meaning union with the cosmos.

Do read The Mystic Sinners, a fiction thriller by Proyashi Barua to know about genuine tantra and tantrics.
