She stared quietly at the scene, her vantage point from atop the peak offering her the security the ones at the bottom lacked.

Sharp focused eyes following the battle below with insane speed, head slightly tilted to one side exuding an innocence she neither possessed nor felt.

It was silent up here, but she could only imagine the din below, swords clanging, axes flailing, feet squelching on the blood strewn about.

Her cape billowed in the sudden wind, the pristine white failing to mask the powerful aura materialising beside her.

She didn't flinch, not even when clawed fingers caressed her clothed shoulder, the blood caked under their nails splotching the white fabric red, mirroring the state of her soul.

He knew better than to break the silence though, simply taking his place next to her, head held high as he watched the massacre.

She had tried to warn her people, beseeching them with wide eyes to truly see what they were becoming.

Sensing the change in her demeanor, he quietly held out an upturned palm, leading her away from what was once her people.

The same people who branded her a traitor for suggesting the alien race came in peace.

The same people who left wounds on both her body and mind through constant interrogation bordering on torture.

The same people from whom she'd run, bleeding heart in hand, into the arms of those that rose up in fury at the injustice of her treatment.

Those that decided that the human race would be a galactic menace if left unchecked.

Those that waged war against the unjust.

Those that let her watch, one last time, before her race was all but wiped out.

As she took her partner's hand and blinked out of existence from the wounded planet, she knew only one word could describe the state of her once-people.
