The Mango Seed Manna
The pulp and juice
Are for them
Both sweet and sour
Both raw and ripe
Jammed-
Jellied-
Pickled-
Ketchup-ed
Those yellow and mellow mangoes
Nature’s manna
Drooping from her green arms
Nourishing men,animals,birds and even worms
But not us-
Civilization’s discarded peels
Thrown away seeds are ours
For we are Nature’s step children !
They come in hordes
Invade our forests
Plunder our groves
Pluck, pick, pack and export
The green, yellow and the red mangoes
For those insatiable palates and extended stomachs,
While hunger kicks our kids
To collect the seeds ravens throw
Our women dry, pulverize those with toil
And sweat to boil
The mango seed manna
That sustains our kernel
And nurtures our pith
For we are Nature’s savage children !
