It was in September last year when Shoaib and Naina broke up their five-year-long relationship. Nothing seemed to be fair or right. There was no valid reason for the sudden rift. Couples do fight over trivial issues and men do get possessive about their girls but that does not lead to a complete closure.
Shoaib was close to me, he still is, may be more than Naina; despite the fact that I had come to know Shoaib through Naina. Madness in love, undying faith in your soul mate and unconditional giving is what Shoaib is made of. I would be lying if I say I have seen such lovers before. He is one in a million. At times. I wanted to run away from him. He was madly in love with Naina even when he knew she did not need him anymore.
Nothing can be more painful than a broken heart. It takes the courage of a lion to have that kind of courage.
Shoaib had been depressed for over a year now. He had been asking for forgiveness, despite having done no wrong. He loved her deeply. Naina too loved him.
Naina, like other normal girls wanted to be independent. Shoaib did not like her doing things that made him insecure. They had differences and drifted apart.
The situation seemed more than perfect for the playboy, Arjun. He was a common friend. Nobody could doubt his intentions. Naina and Arjun had started liking each other during this phase, both being somehow unhappy in their current relationships. Nobody knew about the relationship that was slowly growing stronger.
They had decided not to reveal that they were a couple now. Shoaib was losing interest in everything. He did not want to live without Naina but she was in love with someone else now. As they say love is blind, she could not see the lies Arjun kept on telling her all the time and was wooed by his words.
Soon, Arjun showed his true colours and threw Naina out of his life like trash. He boasted about fooling her and ruined her reputation.
We were left shocked and everyone assumed Naina was at fault. She was sailing in two boats at the same time and it was time for her to drown. We did not feel sympathy for her. Little did we realize that she was dying inside. Someone she loved had betrayed her but she had also lost Shoaib and the trust of her friends. She had no courage to face us and slowly moved away from us.
Such is the plight of a girl who believed in words and ignored the actions. Sitting in one corner of the room, looking at the college crowd, she smiled and cried. The college too, seemed to be laughing at her, mocking at her indecision. She had learnt the lesson for life.
