Outside the world holds itself
in the stillness of summer
while the sky hinges just a little
enough to smudge the landscape
with this blazing effusion.
Outside commuters seek shade
in old deserted shops.
Conversations meet abrupt ends
eyes grow drowsy , tired of vision.
The soda boy cuts through ice
dropping cubes in plastic cups
while kitchen sounds merge
in the silence of sounds.
The newly arrived man in town
meditates of other cities
and lost lovers, half asleep.
In another room
a mother lulls to sleep her child
who is yet to know his place
in a hallucinating universe.
