I had got this bike refurbished yesterday. Steely rims recently chromed glistening like diamonds. We stop at red traffic light. It was 3 a.m. An unearthly chill fell upon me as time passed. All voices hushed and movement paused, as if time itself did not dare continue its incessant journey. I never felt anything like this before. Not even at funerals.A really beautiful girl riding a bright red mofa stops and waits (like me) for traffic signal to become green.

Her skin was so pale that snow looked dirty next to it. Her beautiful blue eyes glistened with emptiness. Her lips clamped together with the power of a vice. The black hair that cascaded down her back blew haphazardly in the wind, whipping anyone who dared to come near her. Her entire presence was extraordinary.

Mysterious though. She looks as if she was on a mission (with a bounty on her head). The serenity of the surroundings was surfeit.
Looking at her, unpleasant memories of high school flash in my mind. The girls; who rejected me. How I just sat at home during prom. While everyone was having a time of their life, I just sat in front of my television screen watching Netflix.
Only thing that could have been worse at that time would have been a snorkel duct tape to my face and someone defecating over it.

But it all does not matter now. I study at Yale and I am a more than decent soccer midfielder.

The traffic signal turns green.

Just as I am about to resume my journey, grandpa asks me to stop. I do. A truck crashes into the girl and she dies on the spot.
That could have been me…

Then I utter an inhuman cry.

I have never cried so much in my life.

Grandpa had died two years ago.
