Readomania is an independent publishing house that creates an eclectic mix of content for its readers. We craft books that enrich lives.

Creating a book is almost like birthing a baby and nurturing it. From the time we get the manuscript until it we hold it in our hands as a printed book, or as an ebook edition, we care for it like our own child, treat it with a lot of love and affection, just like any sculptor would carve an almost living statue out of stone. We like to call our process that of crafting books.

Literature and content can make people introspect, and that has the power to change our attitude, our outlook and eventually our actions, potentially making this world a better place to live in. This is the core philosophy that drives our work and the choices we make, precisely the reason we say our books enrich lives.

We started in September 2014 and our annual publishing list was streamlined from 2016 onwards. Our list includes literary, midlist, and commercial fiction across multiple genres, short stories, poetry, non-fiction, and children’s fiction. The current focus of our publishing programme is diversity in content. We want to bring in as many flavours as possible. We are delving into mythology retelling, historical fiction, period drama, crime, thriller, romance, short stories, poetry, children’s fiction, humour etc.

A publishing house plays a very important role in society. It can drive narratives, influence points-of-view, and be a catalyst for change. We aspire to take Readomania to a position where it can do this effectively, along with being a profitable, sustainable venture. Our selection criteria, based on this thinking, are a potent mix of analysis, instincts, and market trends. The analysis focuses on the content, market trends on the genre, and competition. Instincts are hard to define but are based on experience, author interaction, and a bit of in-built bias.

Now that you know who we are, what is our philosophy, and what we want to do, here is what you must have to approach us for publishing your work.

It all starts with an idea, whether it is a book or anything else. So what is your idea? Is it unique or different from the crowd?  Does it have the power to influence people, make them emote, or leave a strong message? If so, then your idea potentially has merit. Write a short and impactful concept note for it, not more than 100 words, to state the purpose of writing the book.

Now let us come to the story that evolves from the idea. Is the story well-narrated, with a unique plot based on a unique idea? If yes,  you may have a winner here. But, since it is your story, you will always love it, do get someone else to give you a second opinion? It helps. Once done, write a  good synopsis of the whole story in 500-1000 words.

If you have the above ready, please send a proposal to us at contact@readomania.com

Build your proposal in a way that Wows us! Don't do a half-hearted submission. Respect your time as well as the editor's who is reading your submission. Please include the following,

1. A concept note cum synopsis on the book - what do you want to tell the world through the book? What is your message? What is your storyline? Who are your characters and Why should anyone read your book? Remember this is not a blurb, you must be articulate enough to summarise the book. The word count for this document should not exceed 1000 words. We will use this to assess the strength of the book, its and whether it is in line with our publishing philosophy, as stated above.

2. Three sample chapters from your book, ideally the first three. This gives us a view of your writing, your narration, and the command over the language you have used. We will use this to assess your style of writing, the narration, and the language.

3. An author introduction with a photograph and social media profile links. We will use this to understand you better. As a publishing house, we also ask an important question, why are you the best person to narrate the story you are telling? Your profile and background help us answer this.

Please do note the following as well,
1. We accept only English manuscripts as of now.
2. We accept attachments in .doc and .pdf formats only. Documents should be prepared in a legible font.
3. We will look at novellas or full-length novels, works of non-fiction only.
4. For short stories, please publish them on www.readomania.com or submit them under a contest for an anthology. We publish only curated or commissioned short story works in print.

Remember, once you submit your proposal, we will evaluate it on - novelty in the content, quality of writing, and market potential. If your proposal is accepted, we will request for the whole manuscript and evaluate the same on similar parameters. Our final reply will come to you within three months of submitting the final proposal.

So once the evaluation is complete, we either accept it or return it with reasons for our inability to publish it in print.

We may accept it for print publishing or our online ebook imprint. Usually, short stories and novellas are given preference in the ebook format, once a year we do a print collection as well. Novels and non-fiction are always done in print format.

If accepted, we send you a draft agreement for consideration. We pay a royalty against a sale for publishing the selected works. Once the agreement is signed, we schedule the book in our publishing calendar. The slot could be immediate or a few months later, depending on whether it is print or ebook, the genre, and our own pipeline of projects.

If it is a print book, approximately three to five months before the scheduled launch, we start work on the editorial and design. The editorial process includes a few rounds of developmental-edits and copy-edits, followed by the layout finalisation and proofs before printing. In parallel, the cover gets done. Once the book goes to print, marketing and distribution take over.

We hope this article is helpful in your research about us and our process of publishing. Should you have any more queries, please leave a comment below this blog and we will answer it.

We look forward to your proposal in our email inbox. Remember, our email ID is contact@readomania.com
