Soul mates are always meant to be together.  In this world you are lucky if you can find a person who shares similar interests and understands you completely.

My life had been ordinary. I had no social life. My only connection to friends was through Facebook.

One day, while I was browsing through Facebook, a chat window popped up.
“Hi, how are you?”
It was my school friend Nikunj. I didn’t bother to reply. After all, it had been ages since school.  And even back then I had barely known him. We had met only twice when in school; I knew nothing about him except his name. But he continued to message me.

A few days later, he sent me a message again. This time, I decided to reply. And that was the beginning of our friendship. Although we had not met for over ten years, we chatted as if close to each other. We continued our conversation through the day, setting the pattern for the coming days. We reached a point where our days were incomplete without chatting with each other.

One day I was online, eagerly waiting for him to come online but he didn’t turn up. That night I was disappointed. I waited for him the next day too but when he failed to turn up, I started feeling restless. Negative thoughts started bombarding my sense. As days passedwithout chatting with him, I became more agitated. I prayed to God to send him online. He was always on my mind.

It was almost a month before I saw him online again. The joy of seeing him online was indescribable. I was thrilled that too was feeling the same. We decided to speak on the phone and exchanged phone numbers. One day he called me. I was nervous.

“What will I say to him? What will we talk about?” I wondered.

But after hearing his voice and once we started talking, I felt Nikunj is the one for me.  Days passed as and we spoke for endless hours. Eventually, we decided to take taking our relationship to the next level. We wanted to marry. Yes! We decided to tie the knot without having met each other. I was only connected to him through phone calls and those calls were enough to bind us for a lifetime.  We approached our respective parents.

My parents were worried. “How can you choose someone without having met him?” they asked. But true love is not about a person’s physical appearance only; what mattered was that our frequencies matched. I could vouch for his behaviour.  He was an amazing person with a beautiful heart.

On the first day of the New Year, we finally met. I was waiting for Nikunj with my father at a mall. I could see someone heading towards us; I recognized him. He greeted my father as we went inside the mall.  We spoke for hours. I thanked God for sending him into my life.  It never felt that we were meeting for the first time. After two months our parents met. We were the happiest couple in the world. Everything was going on smoothly and as per our desires. My life was a fairy tale. I was lucky to have my soul mate in my life.

A year passed and the time for us to get married came closer. I was the happiest girl in the world. But, true love is not easily achieved; one has to fight hard for it.

As per our traditions, we went to the astrologer to fix a date for our. An Indian wedding is filled with rituals and follows several customs; matching the astrology charts of the bride and groom is one of the foremost things. The astrologer started matching our birth charts.  He, who was to fix the date for our wedding, shattered our lives at one go.

“Their charts do not match. They are not compatible,” he declared.

Our beautiful relationship was on the brink of destruction. Nikunj walked out of the meeting and refused to meet me for a month. After much deliberation, we finally met only for Nikunj to end our relationship.

“I can’t risk our future,” he said.

The decision had already taken its toll on him. I could see his red eyes, puffy due to lack of sleep, dark circle beneath. I tried to convince him against his decision but it was too late.  The fear of a bad future had made a deep place into his heart. I knew he would not return to me. He embraced me, one last time.

“Promise me that you will move forward in life and never look back. You will always remain precious to me.  So what if we are not meant to be together. We are and will always remain soul mates,” he murmured as we held on tight. “I have learned a lot of things from you. The love, care and affection we share will ensure our bond is unbreakable.”

Life moved on and we married other people, but continued to remain friends. After all, soul mates are always meant to be together.  And you are lucky if you can find a person who shares similar interests and understands you completely.
